There has been a number of attempts, over past years to increase the vibrational stability of a grinding wheel by building in a flexible rim or making the wheel of such flexible compounds that dampen vibration. Such flexibility often brings with it a lack of stiffness and therefore a lack of rigidity. The system being researched will not affect the machine or system stiffness but it will significantly reduce the amplitude of the process vibration. Due to the inherent wheel design and configuration, a sigificant decrease in the overall cost of the grinding wheel will result.
